How Is This Legal?
The number one question we hear at Normalize—and the 2018 Farm Bill that made federally compliant hemp products possible.
How Is This Legal?
It's probably the number one question we hear at Normalize.
"How is this legal?"
If you've ever been surprised to see hemp gummies, tinctures, or other wellness products available online, you're not alone. The answer lies in the difference between hemp and marijuana, and in a law passed by Congress in 2018.
The Law That Changed Everything
The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp at the federal level. Under this law, hemp is defined as cannabis containing no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis.
This distinction made it possible for federally compliant hemp products to be grown, manufactured, and sold throughout much of the United States.
In other words, these products aren't exploiting a loophole—they exist because federal law created a legal framework for hemp.
Hemp Isn't the Same as Marijuana
Although hemp and marijuana come from the same plant family, the law treats them differently based on their THC content.
Hemp products sold through Normalize are sourced from federally compliant hemp and are formulated to meet federal legal standards.
So Why Do Some States Have Different Rules?
While the federal government legalized hemp, individual states can still regulate how certain hemp-derived products are sold or shipped within their borders.
That's why product availability isn't identical across every state. As state laws evolve, we continue monitoring those changes so we can ship only where products are permitted.

At Normalize, we believe education is just as important as the products themselves. Our goal isn't just to offer hemp-derived wellness products—it's to help you understand how they fit within today's legal landscape so you can make informed decisions with confidence.
Questions are welcome. The more you know, the more empowered you'll feel to choose the wellness products that are right for you.
